六、内容简介：

In this talk, I would like to promote the use of NcFEMs (nonconforming finite element methods) rather than the traditional conforming counter parts (CFEMs, the Conforming FEMs). The lecture will begin with explaining why the idea of NcFEMs is more natural and adequate in the approximation of solutions of PDEs. Several developments will be reviewed in brief. Then some remarks on recent progresses in the theory and practices of NcFEMs will be delivered.

七、主讲人简介：

Dongwoo Sheen is a Professor Emeritus at Seoul National University, Korea. He served as the President of Korean Society for Mathematical Biology, President of the Korean Society for Computational Sciences and Engineering, and the President for East Asia Section of SIAM. He obtained his Ph.D. under the guidance of the renowned computational mathematician, Professor Jim Douglas, Jr. He has previously held postdoctoral researcher positions at the University of Pavia in Italy and Purdue University. In 1993, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at Seoul National University. For many years, he has been the Chair of the Interdisciplinary Program in Computational Science and Technology at Seoul National University. His research interests encompass numerical analysis and scientific computing across various fields such as fluid and solid mechanics, electrodynamics, mathematical finance, and mathematical biology. In 2012, he was honored with a commendation certificate from the Minister of Science and Technology of Korea in recognition of his contributions to the field of supercomputing in Korea.
